I know nothing about bass amps so I could use some knowledgable suggestions
before i go shopping. I need a bass amp that sounds great :) It has to be
loud enough to play with drums without straining the amp.. right now we
have a starclassic drumset, a mesa boogie F50 and a polytone for guitars..
so i'd want a bass amp thats not going to sound like the weakling of the
room :) we don't gig or anything, just have fun in our little jam room,
recording things when they sound nice..

thanks

Ampeg Rocket Bass. You can't go wrong, and it is under 500.

I'd also offer up the SWR Workingman series. Great amps.

I would look around for a used Fender Bassman silverface head and
cabinet, I have an old Bassman 100 (not to be confused with the "new"
combo of the same name) with a Hartke 4x10 cabinet I scored for $500.
The older Bassman 50, 100, even a Bassman 10 (has 4 10's and 45 watts)
are all decent bass amps at about that price and are probably around if
you do a little searching.

My bass player has an SWR L15, which has a horn for the highs. That was around $300.00 USD. It is a
very nice little unit.

Then there is Carvin's stuff, which is built very well, too.

Ampeg Rocket B100. One little old 15" that'll blow you away on sound.
Direct outs and the rest included.

Yup. They nailed the sound. And for cheap, and simple.

You can get a Hartke 3500/4x10 combo for under 500 bucks used. Not the
best sounding, but not a lot will be for under 500. It's freaking loud
though. I used it gigging for a couple years and could drive 4x10+1x15
stacks all night with it. Cool Amp. It's a lot of muscle for the buck,
just not a lot of finesse.
