whatsapp kicks arse because of multi-platform support, 30 person groups, and little cost.

the only thing missing is read receipts.

Gotta check it out. No surprise its popular if you can bypass the service providers BS text fees but can prolly only text peeps with the app. Worth a look see...

Ironically, in Canada, data costs an arm and a leg while unlimited text messaging is the norm lol. I rarely use WhatsApp but it's a good alternative in low signal zones (but good WiFi coverage) or to send pictures to friends.

It does have read receipts. 1 check mark is sent and 2 check marks means the message has been read, or at least they opened your chat window.

I used WhatsApp on Android phone. Sometimes it takes over a day before the message is received on the other end. It lagged so bad that I had to uninstall it. Using google messenger from the browser is faster.
