Solved! When I plug in headphones with a mic through an audio splitter, it only picks one or the other to use depending on the order of plugin

I got a new pc and the headset I would use for Xbox or my phone won't work even when it is plugged in through an audio splitter. It will only use my headset for audio or a mic but not both

Make sure it's not just a splitter, it sounds like you need a 4 pole to 3 pole adapter.
