When I try to delete a message in my Outlook and Gmail mailbox, a Microsoft outlook window pops up and asks me if I want to permanently delete this item if I say yes it is gone forever. if I say no then it won't let me delete it. I don't want to permanently delete it I just wanted to go into trash.

Try dragging it to the Trash folder - that might work.
