I didn't pay attention and bought this laptop, it said clear as day that it did not come with a disk drive. Thinking that no one would sell a new laptop without a cd/dvd rom is unthinkable. Yes I was wrong. Now where can I buy the disk drive now? I did get the part that said the maker was "Dell" which normally builds a laptop specifically for the consumer.

How did we go from looking for an optical drive for a laptop that lacks one, to back-up media?

Wow. Talk about lost in space...

£20 British buys a decent conventional drawer type here. The first laptop I came across without a built-in drive was a Toshiba when a customer phoned me in a state of shock at buying a machine without an optical drive.

It would have been nice if the Dell rep had posted their reasons for dropping optical drives. Is it because MS now encourage flash drive repairs on Windows 8+ and if so, why do they think that's the only purpose for a DVD to be required?
