Definitely MSI. Probably more upgradable than Acer.

Both brands have decent models, I think it is hard to judge only on brand. To make a better judgement, I think you should compare models with similar specs based on user reviews. Newegg or amazon would be good places to start reading reviews. My advice, don't be too loyal to any brand, always buy what seems to be the best for the price you pay.

MSI has been making some great laptops recently so I would say MSI in general, although giving specific models to compare would be more helpful.

I would go MSI but as stated it depends on the exact models. Give us links to two desktops or laptops and then we can tell you which is better.
