Which DVD Recorder

It seems as if there are lots of good folks here that understand the tech
part of what is
happening in tech world. I want to buy a DVD recorder to hook to my TiVo
and save some programs as well as convert some
home movies on VCR to DVD.. So looking around there are ones that do -R -RW
and others that do +R and +RW. My current Toshiba only will play -R so I am
a bit confused as to what one to get.. + or - R/RW.. Your comments are
appreciated.

Which TiVo and what kind of PC do you have? If you have a series 2 TiVo and
a PC (as opposed to MAC (no MAC bashing intended)) my recommendation would
be to get a cheap DVD burner for your PC, use TTG to xfer shows to the PC
and then burn from there.

Well the PC is custom built, AMd 64 bit 3000 AMD, 1GB ram, 2x 160gb drives,
Sony DVD burner.. and DTV HD receiver with Tivo..
one end of the house is DTV and other end pc.. so a different DVD by the
Tivo makes more sense..

OK, it being a DirecTiVo, no digital transfer without hacking. So a
standalone DVD burner for you it is!

Just gone through that one ...
Ended up with a Panasonice DMR-ES10S, just a basic DVD recorder. Will
record all format except DVD+RW. It seems to prefer DVD-RAM which is one
that I cannot use on my PC but the other formats seem to work fine if
Finalized. Picture quality is quite good for SP LP but EP at 6 hours is a
bit fuzzy. I have retired my Toshiba so I cannot test DVD-RW, I know it
would play DVD-R but not +R. I have dumped some VHS to DVD-RW then played
then back on my PC and if good done a DVD to DVD copy with Nero for archive.
Sort of time consuming but I did decide that some of the old VHS stuff
wasn't worth the time ot the effort!! Oh, .. going price is around $200,
Circuit City was cheaper than Best Buy and in my case they had an open box
one at discount.
So far I am well satisfied, Doug
