Hello. I need help with deciding what new laptop to get. I have narrowed it down to three possibilities:

MSI GS60 Ghost Pro-080 (4k):

MSI GS60 Ghost Pro-064 (non 4k or 3k)

new 14 inch Gigabyte laptop:

I chose these three due to portability (for work), and GPU. I also put in the non-4k Ghost Pro because I heard that the monitor refresh rate was only 48Hz. I did not see the ability to run at a lower resolution (1920x1080) at a higher refresh rate (60Hz).

Please let me know your opinions, or if you have other suggestions. Also, if anyone knows how good the heat management is, then please let me know. I assume that these newer ultra-thin gaming laptops run hot, but how hot?

Thank you!

I myself have a GS series (the slightly larger and older 870m GS70) they are brilliant machines and really are good for gaming. I would recommend a none 4k display maybe the GS60 3k which is very nice for the extra real estate for working on it. I myself am also looking into the Gigabyte 14Inch, the smaller size really does make a difference in portability and style also makes it seem less of a gaming notebook which may be ideal depending on what type of work environment you are in.

Overall I would go for the Gigabyte if you want a low profile and light laptop or the 3k GS60 if you're big into gaming and need the extra real estate to help you get work done.

Thank you for your reply! It is a big help.

I think I have narrowed it down to a GS60 without the 4k display, and the gigabyte. I had a Sager, loved it, and was considering another but they weigh more than these two (2 pounds more I think).

How do you find the heat management on your GS60? What about the noise?

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1606801/official-laptops-review-thread/page-2.html You'll find my review at the bottom for the GS70 it has the 870M and gaming on resource intensive titles like BF4, watch dogs or Sleeping dogs it sits around 88-89 Degrees after a few hours and can get pretty loud. However if you get the GS series laptop with the newer 970m they do run very quiet and alot cooler. My gs70 is pretty much silent when doing less intesive stuff like word, Microsoft project ect.

Of course, the next day after our discussion the new line of Gigabyte models were released haha!

They have the newer gtx980m GPU, and you can get it with either a regular FHD screen or a 3K screen.
FHD: http://www.xoticpc.com/gigabyte-p35xv3cf2-p-7620.html
3K: http://www.xoticpc.com/gigabyte-p35xv3cf3-p-7840.html

These are looking nice to me now since the look less like a gaming rig (good for work), and have the upgraded video card.

Do you think a 3K screen is worth it?

If you're splashing out over 2k for a laptop with a 980m a 3k screen is defiantly worth it, can always scale it down for gaming in some super demanding games and we all love more real estate. These Gigabyte laptops will probably be my next route also to go, so I would go for one of these very slim and low profile chassis with top end power while also the efficiency of the 900 series.
