Which is a better deal of the two? Lenovo G50 (Staples) or Acer Aspire (Walmart)

Same price at both Staples and Walmart of $399.99:
This is for my brother that does not play games, just surfs, uses spreadsheets & docs, watches netflix etc.
He want to spend $400 at the max (plus tax). Battery life is kind of important but not a deal breaker. I have seen the Microsoft store site, but want to get something he can readily return if necessary.

Staples : Lenovo G50 with DVD drive : Lenovo (80E301Y6US) G50 15.6" HD Notebook, AMD A8-6410, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Integrated AMD Radeon R5 Graphics, Win10, Black

Walmart : Acer Aspire 15.6" Notebook with Intel Quad-Core N3700 1.60GHz Processor, Windows 10 - E5-532-P86K, White (no DVD drive)

None of the above.

This destroys both of them for 60 bucks more:

Returns are easy with Amazon, couple clicks, print a label put it back in the box you got it in, drop off at UPS (or you can even have them pick it up) and boom done.

The performance difference between this computer and either choice you posted is astronomical.

Even this:

So many more better choices for the price.

Plus never underestimate the usefulness of a backlit keyboard... I wish I could find you something with an i3 and an SSD because I'd actually go with something like that over all of these options, given the proposed workload.

well, for me, a 14 inch laptop is more portable which is sort of the point of a laptop.

also the i3 is a more powerful processor than the A8-6410 and its HD4400 graphics may be at least as good as the R5 GPU in the A8.

the resolution is the same, pixel density is up just a bit on the 14" laptop

i3 laptops generally have better battery life.

What about the Toshiba Satellite C55-C - I heard that is the best laptop under $500. True?
And this went out of stock, which is too bad :

The Intel HD 4400 is definitely more powerful than the Radeon R5 (Beema) graphics core in the A8-6410. The Radeon R5's performance is slightly lower compared to the Intel HD 4000.

just note that poor build quality was noted in teh c55-c review but basically it's that dell for $100 less. otherwise, they're both pretty good for the money.
