If you want a decent gaming laptop you're going to need to spend more than that. Both of those are poorly equipped for playing current games.

can they at least play modern games on low i have a desktop pc for gaming on high settings. this is just for travel or when friends want to play.

Since the native res on both is 1366x768 low settings should be possible with the 620m, the 7640g seems to be quite a bit slower. So go for the 620m.

Performance is better but Samsung systems are built with higher quality parts than Acer, imho.
