HP 15.6" HD LED Intel Quad-Core, 4GB RAM 1TB HDD Laptop with Software and Lifetime Tech Support $499.95 or Dell 15" Laptop Intel Core i5 8GB RAM 1TB HDD Tech Support & MicrosoftOffice for $699.95 -- I don't mind paying more for the Dell if it's a better computer. Thank you for your help.

you need to be careful when reading "Intel Quad core". If it's i7 it is definitely a better choice than i5. However, Intel recently started shipping Pentium Quad Core, which is basically a quad core Atom and is rubbish.
