I want to buy a new laptop and I am currently divided between these two models.

HP Pavilion 15-n221sa or Asus X550CA

I am not a gamer so I don't need the laptop for such purposes but rather something that's good enough for web browsing and Microsoft Office work and that's also affordable.

And I'm aware that the Asus model has less memory compared to the other one but I've heard better things about Asus than HP from people.. Then again they admit they don't know much about computers so I came here for a second opinion.

Which one would you recommend me to get? Thank you!

You need to list the full specs for the models you are looking at, the HP looks to have an i3 CPU, but that ASUS model can have anything from a low voltage slow CPU to an i7.

Thanks to everyone who answered so far and apologies. I didn't realize that there were several different Asus models by that name.

If it helps these are the links to the laptops

Asus - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1451115.htm
HP - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1467752.htm

When I went to the store the same HP was listed as n224sa and I thought I made a mistake but online it's what I posted. Is there an actual difference between HP 15-n221sa and 15-n224sa? I just wonder why the name was different.

Of those two the HP is faster, but it's also a bit less reliable brand. For basic tasks the Asus is fine although if you want to play HD movies the HP will handle them a lot better.

This is the ASUS page for the model, there are many CPU options for it. http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550CA/

Keep in mind that laptops are not very upgradable aside from RAM and hard drive, so spending a bit more on a laptop up front will almost always be a better pick.
