Hi guys,

I want to buy a beast Core i7. I've 2 in consideration. Please tell me which 1 you recommend. In Option B, I see the only difference is 24GB SSD, which I don't feel is much space, but plese try to convince me if I should get Option B & why).

Option A).
HP Envy 15-J039TX Core i7 4700MQ-2.4GHZ
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
15.6" LED
Win 8
NVIDIA 2GB GRAPHIC-
CAM-FP-
6 CELL BATTERY

Option B).
HP Envy 15-J138TX Core i7 4700MQ-2.4GHZ
8GB RAM
1TB HDD & 24GB SSD DRIVE
15.6" LED
Win 8
2GB GRAPHIC-
CAM-FP-
6 CELL BATTERY

Thanks.

ahh OK, I see. Sorry I couldn't get your point earlier. Actually a friend recently bought it, he was showing me something like a drive called "Recovery", I thought he told me its the SSD.

So what you mean by Cache? If I understand properly, its 1TB Total, and from this 1TB, 24GBs are allocated to the Cache? Am I Right?

Or its 1TB + Additional 24GB ?

Thanks.

Yes I'm here. dustinhunt, do you Agree? I mean, can we say the manufacturers allocated 24GB to SSD & added it in C Drive, which let's say would be 300GB or 600GB whatever the C partition was assigned?

But since C is the place where OS is normally installed, so 24GB SSD is made a part of it?

Another huge benefit of a true SSD on a laptop is that they use significantly less power, as there are no moving parts. Thought I'd throw that in too. You will get much more battery life out of a charge.

Sounds good.

I was previous posts a bit just then and get the feeling that you don't fully understand how that hybrid works. As was mentioned, the 24GB is just "glorified cache". It's not a true SSD. The performance/speed will be NOTHING like a high-end true SSD. It WILL be faster than a conventional HDD, but not in the same game as the true SSDs.

Like Construkt said there won't be a separate Drive for SSD on the computer, so how it actually works for installing OS on SSD? Is it something like by default, SSD space get merged with C (Primary partition) where OS is installed? And even if the 24GB is fully utilized, the (C) Primary drive still have lots of extra space (Whatever is the partition size, like 200, 500GB)?

If you already owned this computer I wouldn't advocate the SSD so much. But right now you have the opportunity to get it just the way you want it. I would just think it a shame to "settle" on something. When you make an investment as big as a computer, it's wise to do your homework and get the best bang for your buck......which I certainly do think that you are doing. It is worth the time that it takes to research and decide what will work best for you. :)

Yes, I agree & really appreciate the help from you guys. Since you said I'll feel more comfort from Performance POV, so I also want to buy the 24 GB SSD version, which comes in my budget. But I can't possibly invest in a separate SSD drive, bcoz honestly the price of this laptop itself is a little higher than my budget but I'm happy to spend a little extra for the performance.

The budget situation being what it is, it is fully understandable. And you will definitely benefit from the hybrid drive. It's what? 50 dollars extra I think it was? Certainly worth the added cost. :)

I just noticed that you were Pakistani. One of my best friends in flight school here in the States was from Pakistan! His name was Atif Munir. We really enjoyed one another's company. The cultures are so different, which made it very interesting.

After he went back to Pakistan I never heard from him again. We had a lot of fun together though. :)

Good to hear that. :)

Also, dustinhunt78, how will you comment on my current computer's situation as I explained above, the Ram Vs Processor. Right now I've like 6 tabs open in Chrome & 4 tabs open in IE and media player is open, that's all I'm using right now. Processor is showing cool readings like 10% - 20%, BUT 70% of the Ram is in use which is about 2.95 GB out of 4GB and Still my fan is running angry & laptop is hot.

So what you think? Will you too related this as a Low Ram issue? I mean right now since the processor is not too busy & 70% Ram in use accompanied by fast running fan. Doesn't it indicates that the computer needs more Ram? And do you think if I add 4 more GBs to it, (3 GB in use right now), and then 5GB (Spare) will ease up the burden on the computer?

What version of Windows are you using?

Win 7 64 bit.

Just adding to my above message, I just closed Chrome & recovered about 800MB to 1GB of Ram. And Processor readings dropped to 0% to 10%.

I will go ahead and post required RAM, CPU, etc. for Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Windows 7:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements

Windows 8:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/features/windows/3358892/windows-8-system-requirements/

As you can see by these, later versions of Windows require a considerable amount of resources. Windows 8 in particular. It requires 2GB of RAM just to run!

I don't ever recommend less than 8 GB of RAM for today's computers. My laptop has 8GB, my desktop has 16GB.

If you would like to upgrade your RAM, send me your system specs and I will choose a good RAM option custom tailored for you. Also, let me know what your primary and secondary uses for your computer are. This plays a huge role in the type of hardware that you need in order to operate efficiently. :) I am also enclosing a link that instructs you "How much RAM do I need?" Along with what I tell you, you will find this rather useful.

My usage is professional as well as for personal use. Office work, graphics designing (Photoshop), lots of browsing, lots of movies, lots of programs running at the same time (Skype, Excel, Email Outlook, Firefox, Chrome, IE, Filezilla, Dropbox etc. etc. I need them running all at once)

My Current Specs are
HP G6 Pavilion Core i3 M380 - 2.5Ghz)
4GB DDR3 Ram
320GB HDD
Win 7 (SP1) 64 bit

Your maximum RAM is 8GB, which is great. Even on the highest performance gaming computers, 8GB is considered acceptible. Can you find out the frequency of the RAM that you have installed? I'm guessing that it will be 1333Mhz, but I can't tell for sure unless I have the EXACT model number. I know that it is a G6, but there are many G6s and the memory frequency may be different from one model to the next.

This is some of the best RAM that you can get. I am listing 1333Mhz RAM and 1600Mhz RAN. Your computer has a max that it can function with. Some computers can operate at a max of 1333Mhz, while others can be overclocked to 3000Mhz and beyond. Once you go that high in frequency however, you about have to take out a second mortgage on you home. LOL It's expensive!

I think the currently installed Ram is 1333Mhz, I just checked the box of the last 2GB Ram I installed on it couple of years ago, it has this written on the box.
KVR1333D3S8S9/2G
10600 CL9

Yes my laptop supports upto 8GB Ram, but do you think it will also support 1600MHz bus speed?

Thanks.

The only way to know is to do a search on your EXACT model number and find memory stats.
