But its not that simple. It will make no difference which one you choose if the laptop does not have discreet graphics.

What exact laptops are you considering?

The i7 would be better for its hyper threading support. Although you will really not notice much of a difference either way unless you run multiple games or hardware intense task. Your main concern for gaming would be the GPU.
