Which one?

Hi...I'm about to get my laptop in the mail,and would like to be ready to game right of the bat. So im doing some research and the like now so i wont have to later.
The issue im tackling now is SECURITY:

My main focus for this laptop will be gaming and thus im trying to choose a suite that will accommodate that.
so far the 2 choices that i seen that are best are;
Norton gamers edition
&
ESET

I was wondering if you could help me choose form these two from personal experience or information that you all my have


PS: IF you have a better choice feel free to let me know
PPS: Im looking for the best....welling to spend upwards of 60$.....but if the best happens to be cheap i wont complain 😀

Please, fr the sake of your computer do not get Norton. It has terrible detection rates and clogs your computer more then wet tissue paper.

ESET on the other hand is very good, very little system impact and great detection rates.

Avira Security Suite is also supposed to be good, but I prefer ESET myself, I've had better experience with it.

I wonder why Norton is one of the biggest companies but....everyone seems to say the same thing about it ....IT SUCKS

It's because they have deals with companies like Dell, so it ships with their PCs or customers get offered it at a low price.

Newcomers to computers have no idea of its track record use it.

Also it used to be good at one point, some people from back then are stuck in a rut and continue to use it.

All hate for Norton as i see.. Well let me play the devils advocate then.. Am a gamer (hardcore to say the least) and guess what, I've norton internet security 2009 loaded for protection.. Am not experiencing any lags or slowdowns (major surprise for most of you may be).. It might also be worth mentioning that I've never had any system failure as a result of virus or spyware stuff from the time I've norton installed and that would be around 16 months back.. Now for those of you wondering that i might have a ultra high end pc, here are my system specs -
intel C2D E6750
gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r
4 GB corsair RAM
Radeon 4870 1 GB
Hitachi 250 GB sata hdd
windows 7 64 bit (upgraded from vista 64 bit)

No doubts on norton being a system hog but it was quite sometime ago.. The latest norton releases have a very soft footprint on the system.. Don't get me wrong, i can tell this coz am using it..

All the Norton bashing is unfounded. As Emperus mentioned, the last couple years Symantec has really improved on the resource demands. It has good detection rates, and is pretty light on resources compared to some other AVs. I've used Norton 360 for the last 2 years, and have no complaints (other than the price).

However, I've also switched most of my PCs to Avast. I've been very pleased with the detection rate, resources, and it's quiet. You don't get a lot of pop up notifications. Best of all, it's free.

Agree with the Norton part. Get BitDefender. It's very good and doesn't clog your computer.

Always used Eset and it never failed me before. Had norton before and I can confirm it does slow your system down a little...
Received 1 year copy of AVG and that works pretty well too.
