What no Kindle killers with Trans-reflective LCD displays like the Notion Ink Adam tablet? My OLPC XO has one and it is like 2 years old now.

The Lenovo U1 is sort of an odd place. It is a CULV platform only (which procludes any i3/i5 processors) which means it will be sort of underpowered to begin with compared to the regular mobile offerings. Since you are going to sacrifice mobility of the laptop due to the extra stuff needed for the detachable tablet, why start off with such a weak platform?

Actually the Core i5-520UM is an ultra low-voltage chip if I remember correctly, so that will probably be at the heart of the laptop portion. We are talking about an 11.6-inch laptop here, most of which are based on the same kind of CPUs.

Other than IBM's offering, this JooJoo pad has the most impressive hardware (if you can get past the horrible name... memories of Jar-Jar abound). So it strikes me as strange to read that it offers only a few tasks, but executes them well.

On the other hand, HP pad and iPad really only had the e-book app to distinguish them -- and they are somehow sold as superior devices? This is ridiculous. It only takes *one single app*, a decent e-book reader, on JooJoo and it will beat the pants off of lunatic-closed-down iPad or undefined HP pad? Am I reading this right?

Software is easy. Hardware is hard. I see absolutely no reason to buy iPad -- especially after you take a look at price differentials (16GB -> 32GB should *not* cost that much!)

I may get negative votes on this, but the MS concept device, Courier, is interesting. Something along that line would interest me more than these devices - if only it was a solid product instead of wishware.

I look at the devices and keep thinking the touch screens are going to be covered with fingerprint smudges, peanut butter and jelly.

just preordered my 64gb ipad wifi only. i use my iphone 24/7. i know it's a bigger iphone. thats... the point. for everyone that says it cant run multiple apps just please, shut up. one word. citrix.

anywho, very freaking excited. the device is not only sexy, but has an amazing battery life and easily the best touch screen available. im a technical engineer, and i love my windows7/2008server. but, this is for personal use. its a very exciting time for everyone and the industry. luckily we all have our own opinion and our own wallets.

I know it doesn't have the power of some of the others but the price point is right there. It also runs windows 7. The screen resolution is not all that great but for portability and functionality it hits the mark. Has Tom's checked out this device?

Ordered the 64GB iPad with 3G and all the accessories available. Love my iPhone and see lots more potential in the iPad. iWork alone will up my productivity on the iPad significantly compared to the iPhone. I'm going to try to make the iPad my main roaming computer.

One reason I went for the iPad: Apple gets touch in a way Microsoft and companies like HP don't. Part of it is software and part is hardware.

I can do almost anything with my fingers on the iPhone's relatively small, but highly selective screen. On my 13" 6-times-heavier-than-the-iPad HP tx TouchSmart tablet PC I usually have to hit/swipe my target with a finger or multiple fingers several times before the hit/swipe registers. In TouchSmart mode, paging through objects on the HP is also hit and miss. Sometimes the object moves, sometimes the application flips over to another and sometimes nothing happens.

And for those who worry about finger prints and peanut butter and jelly on the screen, if my iPhone is any indication, wiping anything off the unscratchable screen will be a no-brainer and, even covered with finger prints, the screen hides them when you look at it head-on.

I'll write about my experience with the iPad after I get it toward the end of April.

I love inking and haven't heard anything about that in this article. Will the Lenovo or the HP come with inking support?

win7 on a tablet - wow.

forget linux or even worse- mac os x. or worse - the ripped version that the iPad has. I cant imagine how can iPad compete with full win7 tablet. no flash playback is just as insulting as the no multi tasking.

brain free mac crowd will surely make the iPad a success, but I dont see it eclipsing win7 tablets no matter how brain free mac users are. Contrary to popular belief, most of them can read - and I dont think they will find many kind words for the iPad- thou I could be wrong.

Its a laugh to see all the add on devices for Ipad actually turn the tablet back into a notebook. Gotta protect it... Gotta have a keyboard... I think the touch screen is not the best interface once the device screen is bigger than a track pad (apple size). The perfect portable computer would of been the mac air if they priced it right... I don't want a big itouch ... I want a computer OS. I want flash... light, portable, and something that won't shatter if I drop it.

win7 is designed to be run with touch screen inputs in mind. win7's onscreen keyboard will do just fine as a virtual keyboard i imagine.

Also, when you have a real pc hardware under the hood, you can always install xp/linux/unix/mac os or any other os you chose. Although the mac variety will likely cause Apple Eula violation- not that I would recommend this, even if the legal stuff wasnt an issue.

win7 capability simply means that I get to use regular software- the kind I usually do. I dont have to use proprietary OS and pay for its as incompatible apps and their as intuitive content. Its a win-win for the end user.

I was wrong saying that full Mac OS would surely be worse than win7 on the tablets. I was thinking in terms of desktop computers where Macs lack comparable 3d in both software and hardware.

On tablets, where 3d isnt really the point, it remains to be seen which OS is better. Still, it doesn't look good for the iPad since it lacks some of the "normal" features like flash playback.
