Which tv would you recommend?

Hi all, i'm looking to buy a new tv for general use/gaming. I want to buy it from john lewis (UK) as it will give me a 5 year guarantee. I Narrowed the choices down to two options and wondered which would be the best to buy. I'm leaning toward the Panasonic as it is bigger but i read that Sony is the best tv manufacturer for gaming.
Please note i simply want a standard 1080p tv and have no need for 'smart functions',internet or 3d.

By gaming do you mean hooked up to a gaming PC or hooked up to a console (like ps4 or xbox)

For console the sony should be higher quality, for a gaming PC though the Panasonic will have faster refresh rate and in PC games that is very noticeable on even medium end TVs.

Frankly if this is for a Gaming PC you should be getting a monitor with fast refresh (144hz is the standard) and response time of 1-2ms over a TV.

It is for my xbox and watching TV. So the sony would be the best choice? Why is it better?
