Whilst working with an image how can I increase the work space of photoshop

I have been working on a Photoshop project for a while but the image takes up the entire work space so is there a way to increase that size without affecting my project image/s please?

You can't affect your project unless you are actually using a tool in the program or modifying the project settings.
For more work space you can buy a new monitor, this will be the biggest improvement. A bigger screen with more pixels will give you more space to work.
Other than that there isn't much you can do.
