Why can't I use Messenger & Facebook when I am out shopping? I have a free wifi connection ,no mobile data allowance left..

Should I be able to use Messenger outside in town using free wifi .I have a Samsung j3 phone.. on EE pay monthly. Why can't I log in &send msgs with free wifi? I use SkyQ wifi& broadband at home&I can browse Internet. Why can't I do it when I am in town shopping?

some free wifi still required login/password. Or they might be blocking some site/app for excessive data used.

WiFi only works when you are in range of a WiFi source, that you are authorized to connect to. Maybe 100 meters max.
