[citation][nom]santeana[/nom]..Epic's reasons for preferring iOS to Android is all about money. Has nothing to do with programming or a "consistent" customer experience! They see that more Apple customers are willing to pay for apps than are Android customers. Of course the reason for that is because its such a pain in the ass to pirate software for the iPhone and stuff. Doable, but just a pain. Epic wants the buck. And just like any other big corporation these days, they will screw anyone over they have to to get it.[/citation]

I would most definitely have to disagree with that opinion.. I mean hell, there are android phones running on all sorts of versions, with wildly different versions of Android. Plus Google themselves have publicly stated they hate the fragmentation going on with Android. It is much harder to program for the disaster that is Android atm, than programming for iOS. Also, it's currently a proven fact that iOS pulls in more money per app, than Android.. And sorry.. Epic, is a company, and companies are after money people. Sorry.

Is it any wonder Epic feels the way they do? iOS is thus far better managed and better implemented, than Android despite it's closed nature. Is it any wonder that there are rumors of Google taking more control of it's platform?

[citation][nom]lyrick[/nom]"The Unreal Engine demo was running in real-time on dual GeForce GTX 480 GPUs, but the engine isn't just for high-end computers"Make that 3 GTX 580s[/citation]
Oh, that's right. Thanks!

[citation][nom]scuba dave[/nom]..I mean hell, there are android phones running on all sorts of hardware..[/citation]

Fix'd. Where is edit when you need it! >.

Their latest engine requires highest end hardware to run like that. Compare that to Cryengine 3 that trashes it in every visual department and yet runs on mainstream hardware. Epic fail.

[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]That's why I ordered an iPad 2.If I were an app developer for tablets, I'd develop for iPad. Only 2 possible hardware configurations and millions of potential customers. How many Xooms has Motorola sold in a month? Only 100,000 according to Deutsche Bank[/citation]

Exactly, one of the things that Console developers like is consistency of hardware platforms. They just don't like the hardware update schedule. It guarantee the same experience across the board and it also eases the development and support process. That is the challenge with Android, sure it is a fine OS for phones and it could have or has the software capability to handle the same stuff that IOS has, but when your OS is on 30 different pieces of hardware with 20 different memory, processor, graphics, and storage configurations never mind the differences in software versions per device it is very hard to develop for.

An no Agry Birds is not an example, It is a great game because it is simple and fun, not because of it pushing the limits of the hardware it is on. You play an Unreal Game on a IPhone you better have a power plug with you when you finish cause it taxes the hardware pretty good and thus the battery takes a beating.

Scuba dave is 100% correct and perfectly logical. Google has recently came to the same realization. Enthusiasts and people that want to customize the phone to the 9th degree like the people on this site make up a tiny minuscule portion of the overall population that purchases and uses these cell phones. Companies exist to make money period, and they will make decisions that best suits their needs to do so. Google, Epic, Apple, Microsoft and everyone else are no non profits or not for profits, they exist exclusively to make money and you would not have Android if Google did not have the R&D budget to develop it.

[citation][nom]santeana[/nom]What Epic meant to say was "Google needs to be far more controlling because then more costumers would be forced to pay for software. It is too easy to pirate software for Android and that is why we prefer Apple devices."And I mean there is nothing wrong with that belief from a corporate point of view, so why not just come out and say it? Everyone knows that (ok maybe not EVERYONE knows) Android devices get upgraded and replaced on a much more rapid scale than Apple ones. Every few months as opposed to Apple's once per year. Reason of course is that there are just so many vendors providing devices and competing for market. Epic's reasons for preferring iOS to Android is all about money.

So because Epic wants to get paid for something they invested millions to develop they are screwing people? Android devices come out all the time with different capabilities, does not mean that masses of Android users are going to buy them everytime a device comes out. When is the last time you have seen a line for an Android device?.................crickets.

You forgot to add "and we can be lazy and get away with making apps that older generation hardware can't handle".
One of my biggest pet peeves. I run hardware on my PC that is both budget and a few generations behind. I only upgrade a part if it becomes a serious bottleneck (and I don't care for Crysis, so I can set my threshold relatively low). Catering to the rich shows that the company doesn't have any concern whatsoever for its customers.
Oh well, I've already added Epic to my list of companies to avoid giving money to.

Whatever Epic wants to do is there own prerogative. I basically understand them when they bring up the user experience argument, but the money argument presented by these comments could be just as valid as well as the scalable engine view. This is a very weak argument on my part, but do Android users really want Epic to make games for their platform if they take this negative attitude? Do you really want them in the Marketplace?

I mean, if you feel animosity towards them it would seem kind of natural to say, "If this is the kind of decision their company is going to make, I don't want them in the market anyways, good riddance."

What a bunch of freaking whiners! LOL

Why all the hate for Apple in here? I have never seen such children.

What Epic is saying makes perfect sense. Everyone is comparing PCs and such. This is NOT about PCs and Macs. It is about portable gaming devices. The iPad2 is a phenomenal piece, I game on it more than I do my Xbox now. And that says a lot. They are stating that the consistency of performance on the Android platform is a clusterfuck. And they are right. It is.

I don't care how fandroid you are! Facts are facts. Developers are starting to see the value of portable gaming, and unless Google tightens the bolts, their wheels are going to fall off.

I love seeing all you crybaby Android fans. What Epic said is the truth. Just accept it. Until Google can rein in all the different versions and unite the install base, this is going to continue to happen.

So in the meantime, if you want to play the best mobile games, you need to go iOS. Its common sense bro. Apple is selling millions of these devices compared to thousands. I would definitely put my resources to the larger install base...duh, winning.

Now continue to whine. And have fun with the 15 apps for your tablet 😵

There are PCs running all types of hardware. Millions of configurations. They develop for that, so why can't they do the same for Android?

Their logic is a complete fail.

The best games are only on IOS because they were first and thats where the developers are. The people who buy apple products are the type of people who will waste money on stupid apps and games.

It has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Android is a more flexible OS and has more powerful devices.

And lol at you claiming only thousands of droids have been sold. Apple fanboy right there.

Everyone who buys an Apple product is stupid? Way to make yourself look stupid.

Android is flexable, sure. But look at what that got you. In regards to being more powerful, many of the recent tests shows the iPad 2 beating the Xoom. So go figure.

I didnt claim thousands of Droids have been sold. If you read my post, I was reffering the tablets on Android. Those only sold thousands so far.

Im no Apple fanboy. But I do believe in facing reality, which many of you have a hard time grasping it seems.

how about this Epic. qualify certain Android phones that will run it and then those who want to play it will buy those phones and those that don't want to play your crap are more likely to buy the lower end Android phones anyways. Its logic. How many noobs buy $500 phones? No they are happy with their HTC Eris because it does most of what they want and it's $50. Qualify your customer and sell your product appropriately don't buy into the closed platform BullSnikies.

Let me tell you how many Developers I work with who are mainly OSX \ iOS users at home but hate developing for iOS. They Dev on PC for all platforms and they prefer Android to Dev for.

The last Epic game i played was Unreal Tournament 2003. And at that point i had enough of Unreal Tournament. The most "epic" part of the game is the killing spree's but that gets old. They do make a good engine though. JMO

Hmmm is it me or has Epic caught CrApple disease and now has their head so far up their arses all they can smell is their sh!t?

Epic, please make stuffs for my Motorola Atrix. I'm sure a few other owners and I will buy a copy, so you will sell at least 2 copies if you make your game works with my version of Android Phone.
Also, can you make it work with my future promised version of gingerbread? Second thought, maybe just make it works with version 2.2. I'm sure Motorola is too busy working on the next version of the Android phone, and Google is working on version 3+ for some future phones. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in today's world... "but I don't care" give me the white gingerbread.
