Question Why so many widgets of same app?

Forgive my ignorance, my desire to become tech savvy is only a few years in the making, and was a high school senior during Y2K "Switch", to give an indication of how old I am today, but back to question at hand, I have tendency to not notice things at onset sometimes, but just saw for first time last night since receiving replacement device for damage to old one, multiple widgets for phone app. There was a time on last device when I began noticing additional widgets popping up for same app that I hadn't previously recalled having been an issue up to that point. One widget is always labeled, i.e. "phone" but others, however many there are, have no label underneath respective widget. Is there a legitimate reason for concern regarding the sudden increase of look alike widgets on my screen's app tray display?
