Why so slow, USB 2.0 and 32GB data :(

Hey guys.

So i just transferred 32GB of media from my iPhone 7Plus via the Image Capture Utility on my Macbook Pro (mid-2010 15”) to a USB 3.0 Toshiba 1TB Canvio Basics Hard Disk Drive.

Now according to my calculations the time to transfer 32GB should have been around 10 minutes as USB 2.0 would be the slowest speed.

It, however, took 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Can anyone advise why this might have been the case?

Feel free to ask questions if more information is needed.

Thanks :)

This also depends on the construction of this 32GB of data.

32GB of one large sequential file would be FAR faster than 32GB of 5,000 little files.

The USB 2 or USB 3 specification transfer speed is absolute best case. Many other things come into play.

When you say HDD is the slowest, what do you mean?

It’s readwrite is 75/100MB/s respectively. Faster than USB 2.0 interface speeds.
