"Question. Do you really want to use Government sponsored Wi-Fi? I mean, aren't the snooping on us enough already?"

I just don't understand this viewpoint. Who cares? Of course I'd use free internet. Worried they're going to find your kiddie porn?

There are a few European coutries that have declared that access to the internet is a human right. As such, they provide nation-wide free internet services. Like many have said before, it's a very basic service, but, in their view, poor people require access to information too. How else do they improve their standard of life... considering, again, like others have said, that many companies only accept job applications online, companies only advertise job posting online, etc.

These companies and their "republican shareholders" are "for profit" and so they just Hate anything that is not. They probably want the Government to be for profit too and pay dividends to them.
Small companies a run by passionate people, large corporations are run by M**Fck*s.

A boy and a girl compete for class president position.
Boy talks about all the great things he will do for the class/kids.

Girl promised, if elected, free ice cream for everyone.

Guess who became class president?

4th graders learned politics early. What about you ?

This is what is going to happen:
1) Free nationwide wifi from the government at 10 Mbit.
2) Carriers get out of wireless data business (no H+/LTE anymore)
3) no competition
4) no innovation
5) taxes will keep going up (you don't really believe it is really free, do you?) to pay for non-related government-sponsored projects, still under umbrella of "Free WiFi for the poor!"
6) your taxes will pay not only for your own wifi (like today) but for other 3 people who are not paying taxes.
7) instead of "equal opportunity" you will get "equal results"

You forget that nobody takes the person claiming to bring about utopia serious and are usually considered unrealistic(even in 4th grade). A girl promising ice cream to a 4th graders is a much more believable promise. Not to mention if one kid is promising ice cream to other kids then they better be able to back it up or lose social standing. What are you supposed to do about all those people with snake oil promises of a perfect world that never come through, trust them, lol?

personally I love the idea of a 2g level of bandwidth free on public wifi for basic ussage. I don't know how much it would cost but it seems like an ideal example of what would make a good public service. I am thinking browse wikipedia, look up things, check email, weather, sort of like weather radio broadcasts and gps satellite access. Not something to stream hulu, netflix, download large torrents or gaming. hell if I had free text only web browsing for free I would be pretty pleased and sure I want more but I am thinking more in terms of like terms of minimal and important things, first aid kit instructions look up, "how to change a tire" should I go to emergency room for this type thing.

I get how this could be beneficial, but i'm concerned about all that interference for my own personal wifi network. That's not something I want to put up with.
