Question Wife needs new laptop

My wife’s MacBook Air, after 10 great years, has basically reached the end of it’s life. She literally only uses a laptop to check email and shop online. Doesn’t do any streaming or gaming or anything work related. Money is too tight for a new Apple. I’ve read horrible reviews on an HP but is it REALLY that bad for someone who uses it such as her? Any advice which one I should get?
