Seems like my comment lost its way to Toms servers, or Mr. Assange's enemies might have eaten it, but here it goes again.

Wake up American Corporate puppets !!

1. There's been no leak that compromises the security of US Troops. If you believe otherwise, prove it. All Wikileaks leaks are available to everyone.

2. If there was indeed a danger to US troops, the leaks would have been downright illegal. Every element in the US military would have been opposed to the leak. There's no way it would have been allowed. It was the only line of defence politicians had against Wikileaks, hence its usage.

3. Wikileaks did ask Pentagon which ables had sensitive information which should be treated carefully. Had there been any truly sensitive info, Pentagon would have jumped at the chance.

4. Had American politicians learned to watch their mouths, some of the international calls beginning with 'Hey..I can explain this' could have been avoided.

5. This is for @reprotected. India and US are exchanging nuclear technology. The Obamas did every mundane, silly thing they could while they were visiting India, including playing Hopscotch. Not signs of a cold war, I'm sure.

My point being : You've got the wrong idea of whose the enemy here. These leaks are just like counselling. You face the issues which you were just stashing in the closet. The process might be hard, but what emerges is a cleaner, and an infinitely more transparent and powerful government. If a government fails to make it through such things, evidently, there were too many cans of worms. The very foundation was non-existent. The government was not serving its purpose, or its citizens.

And I don't see many of you complementing Wikileaks for exposing American murder of journalists, prisoners at Guantanamo Bay and what not.

@ Bill Gates...Daddy,

Did you really just equate an Australian citizen operating in Europe and committing espionage to the American Founding Fathers? Wow...

Not every negotiation, whether personal, corporate, or political in nature, should be 100% transparent globally, and wishing to make it so is either the most naive form of idealism, or the most destructive expression of anarchism. Everyone has secrets, and outing those of governments only makes it more difficult for them to do necessary, if occasionally messy, business. If you do not like the fact that governments do things that violate the Boy Scout creed, move to a country run by Boy Scouts - if you can find one...

1) The founding fathers were of European descent, so is Assange.
2) Does it matter where someone works and/or was born?
3) Committing espionage? Those espionage charges are as fraudulent as the British accusation that the Founding Father were traitors - both hold true from the point of view of the accuser, but neither are rationally justifiable.
4) If a government needs shady business and murky deals, it's not a government true to the Enlightenment ideas of the American Declaration of Independence.

China, Iran and the likes do this sort of shady business and we call them evil for doing so - and rightfully so. But that means we also have a responsibility to prevent our own government from taking that evil path. Call it naive if you want to, but moral principles are what keeps democracies from sliding into dictatorships or worse still, chaos.

Kevin--are you actually promoting this?

All possible doubt was eliminated about their intentions when they blackmailed the US by threatening to release information that would cause a major US bank to "go under". I can't believe anyone still supports wikileaks
Yeah it seems like THG is supported this guy. He just released a secret cable listing sites worldwide that the U.S. considers critical to its national security. What was the point of that one? It directly puts lives at risk. Assange is an egomaniac that thinks he's a big player on the world scene. He'll be 6 feet under soon enough when he pisses off the wrong people
I'm sorry change for the better or for the worse? what exactly is thet point of showing the entire world "how to kill our troops?" Umm excuse me, do you know what patriotism means? do you have any sibling or family member in the army? how would you feel if they died? died fighting in Iran. better yet, dieing to kill the future hitler bastard that is going to line us up and kill us all 50 years from now in the next world war. Stop living in your fantasy world buddy. Truth is, war is unavoidable, and if you want to stay alive, you won't help dumbasses like Kim Jung-il..
I'm having a hard time understanding how Tom's Hardware is hosting this article in good conscience.

Would it be ok for Tom's to write/link an article asking for the "community's" support in mirroring child porn sites?

Then why is it ok for Tom's to write/link an article asking for help mirroring leaked government documents which is going to put a lot of US soldiers/citizens' lives in danger?

I'm just your average every day casual reader here at Tom's, and withdrawing my patronage isn't going to amount to a whole lot. But again, responsible journalism and passively supporting treason...I think there's a difference.

I hope that Tom's will see fit to retract this article and offer an apology. If not the latter then certainly the former!

Waiting to see what happens...
and many more.....
brainwashed people!

[citation][nom]amordegrim[/nom]Keep it going, you all need to know the truth. Believe me, this is the tip of the iceberg. Human kind is scared of change, scared of the truth, socially engineered to feel this way in America.Julian is trying to save us through an awakening of conscious. I know you all feel like somethings wrong. Its is, Separate yourself and believe in each other, I Know we can make it. For the people, this is a test for our governments to show us how they really feel about human kind, just be ready to do something when they try and censor us all, for one mans quest for truth. Like anything else they package it in reason and safety, thus using us as the tools for there future.[/citation]
[citation][nom]amordegrim[/nom]Wow, im going to answer this with with the simple idea, that you are stuck, misinformed and probably watch the military channel and fox new all day. There is no such thing as a hippie, you are foolish in thinking there is meaning in the constitution. You place all your value in paper don't you? Like the paper you pay with, the paper that even says your allowed to be here, the paper thats says what your "allowed" to do, the paper or the lack there of that puts people in the streets, or the paper used in hiring hit men. All in all WAKE UP its only as valuable as the people believe it is. I ask to you to Believe in something greater, like the actually PEOPLE. Guess what boarders, religion and all that segregates us, is not written in every one of our minds. But written on paper. In truth its all ridiculous, you think if everyone knew what would happen on the nazi side , or any group for that matter. Its FREEDOM OF CHOICE, we all have it. but we lose it when the time comes for us to fight for our flags. If The choices were made by the people, not by the Gods/ masters/ "Leaders". You would understand the love in everyone of us and our ability to CREATE, our environment. But in society not one of us is "allowed" able or even know where to start when it comes to making decisions.[/citation]
[citation][nom]ahnilated[/nom]All I can say is I hope Wikileaks keeps going strong. I don't think any corporation should be able to hide what they are doing and yes, the US Govt is a Corporation. If you don't believe me go look at the local law library. This country hasn't been a republic, like it was setup to be, in many years. It was NEVER supposed to be a Democracy.[/citation]

Did you just equate the core doctrines of this country to a "Boy Scout creed"? A big WOW back to you.

If you would actually learn to read you can clearly see that I never pointed out any comparison to the Founding Fathers of this Republic. What I can compare is that the actions of releasing this data is EXACTLY what the Founding Fathers said we should do.

You are one of the scared, clueless masses that nothing will ever open your eyes until it standing in front of you slapping you into reality....which always seems the point of being to late.

This is MY country and MY government. They are supposed to answer to ME. The Founding Fathers for the Republic of America put in place what we needed as the citizens of the Republic to RULE the government. The government is not supposed to be running themselves, doing whatever they want, whenever they want.

Damn straight I want this government to be run transparently. It's called checks and balances. It is supposed to be the basis of this government to keep it in line. To do what the people want....not what they want.

If the American government is embarrassed and having to play clean up after this data was released then it sounds like they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. This is how a child acts when they are doing something wrong then gets caught.

If my life is supposed to be transparent for the government then they are going to be transparent for me. Last time I checked....I was supposed to be their boss.

LOL everyone is missing the point ie:
This is America the land of the free "supposedly" and the last strong bastion of freedom / democracy / all that stuff that is in the constitution "that no one ever reads or abides by in the USA"
You are guilty until proven innocent in USA court even though there is a old myth / old wives tale that there is a "innocent until proven guilty" theory that supposedly everyone hopes is still true.

We should say yes and no to this wikileaks controversy.
ie: yes there should be responsible transparency and yes the idiots in the embassy's that is too stupid / illiterate to get jobs in Washington or was forced to take a job in a embassy dew to their obnoxious nature in Washington should think twice before sending stupid emotional crap in their comm.s with the rest of the world.

As with any corporate company your comm.s to anyone over and in their systems / infrastructure will be used against you in a court of law when and if it suits them, same goes for the embassy comm.s .

NO to endangering lives of cannon fodder / our troops guided by em-basil's invading country's for some morons corporate minerals / oil gains or the broken GPS system that caused Zimbabwe invasion to become Afghanistan / Iraq invasion.

Yes we do need to help those under oppression but just like the Kennedy's bribed $400m for the former leaders of South Africa to silent coup d'état and placing convicted murdered and ter___orist Nelson Mandela and his minions that is documented on killing and still killing 50+ people in charge we can with money and other corrupt ways influence the change of power in other country's for better not for worse / corruptions / financial / mineral gains.

Just like we did in Kenya with Former dictator Daniel Arab Moi. nice and peaceful.

O yes and during a war situation like the CIA+KGB sponsored war in Angola / Mozambique against their free legitimate Gov. a war that lasted for 16 years when the ter____orists was given Angola and Namibia some good and bad people might die by accident or leaks or any other stupidity to prove how big our wieners are.

So unfortunately in this war should a few of our friend die well that is their job and very bad but then we should look after their family's at home and the damaged persons returning emotionally and financially even if indirectly or directly related to wikileaks or some moron in Washington making bad decisions.

Wikileaks is not the fire that started it the morons in Washington did and still keep on doing it.
Wikileaks might be the only way to get lazy young male person humping Senate / House / whatever not listenign fat cats that don;t give a damn about the USA / USA person to open their eyes and get forced to re-evaluate their constant non constitutional / non USA behavior and maybe start doing us Constitutionally / Democratically / all that the USA stands for proud again.

Everyone knows you have to shove a red hot poker up the senate / house / gov. arse to get them to start doing their job, this might be it.

this coming from an Veteran, it doesn't matter that wikileaks released this information! Ya think the "terrorists" can't find out this information in other ways, and on another note, PATRIOTISM lol, lol, and maybe lol again. Are u kidding me? Patriotic is the last thing ANY citizen should be for this illusion of a democratic country where ur suppose to have rights and freedoms, when the only right u have for anything is "right this way", and most of the people in this country are sheep, they dont read into anything and they keep re-electing this filthy scumbags in Washington to do what? Since I've been alive I've seen nothing but more control, less rights, and more bullshit. Fuck the government, fuck this system, AND this country, a complete tear down and rebuild is what it really needs, and if humanity would wake the fuck up and realize what is really going on in the world, we wouldn't have so much war and bullshit going on for no reason. The enemy is right at ur front door, wake up, don't be willfully ignorant.

@bill: amen brother

I have great concerns over the checks and balances system as the three branches have become less about preventing other sides from gaining power and more about collusion against the citizens. I had hopes the tea party would start an actual citizen's movement for reform, but it has since been swayed by the powers that be into just another right-wing voting block that follows the preachings of Beck and Palin and their anti-Obama rhetoric rather than being an independent gov't changing movement. Luckily, no one party will have total control these next 2 years, resulting in my favorite kind of gov't, a deadlocked one that does nothing.

I have always been much more worried about what rich, white, Christian men in Washington DC and NYC are doing than I ever will be about poor, brown, Muslim men are doing in a cave over on the other side of the planet. The ones in DC/NYC are much more likely to do something that actually affects me.

[citation][nom]blazeorangeman[/nom]First Amendment Rights don't apply to Australians FYI[/citation]
No, but it does apply to Amazon.com, a US corporation who was pressured by Senator Lieberman to shut down the hosting.

And yes, corporations are guaranteed free speech, that's why the supreme court ruled they can freely contribute money to political campaigns.

Ah, not sure they should have to apologise about posting a news article.
If it offends you by reading it, probably best just to ignore it.

So the U.S. of A’ (and many other countries, and their diplomats) draw from the tools of espionage, data mining, psychological profiling and/or manipulation, and/or breaks any number of what the layman might call “rules of good conduct” to protect the republic for which their beloved flag stands.
“DUH!,…I’m just beside myself with this one!...I sure wouldn’t have seen this one coming!?!...”
ehh'...,...it's all a bunch of stuff that anybody with a brain had to assume was ( and WILL continue) going on. We Americans are drawn like starved piranhas to the sensationalism of information that we're (most of the time) already aware of. It's this wave of over-sensationalism that will ultimately make this a "real" problem. The trouble with us is that we've had it so good for so long, we're all board. We rarely watch (or comprehend) the news, and instead watch biased tabloid new networks, reality shows and/or Jerry Springer to see people constantly arguing about stupid, made-up crap. Why? Well we've had no REAL struggle we can remember since WWII or The Great Depression. Most of the people that suffered through those times have passed on. We don't appreciate peril of the world because our country's strength, secrets, strategic, and political strategies (couple with our military power) have kept us all safe and lulled us into a complacent and stupid frame of mind.
This guy (Julian Assange), this traitor of human kind has preyed on humanity's weaknesses and craving for cause and conflict. He creates hysteria generated by the very thought of "secrets" in the hands of one's enemies (depending on your country of origin). His rouge of legitimacy is manifested by his delivery of it all before our very eyes. He then gathers praise as some great "truth-teller" when in fact he's merely out for his own. He gets a huge rush of twisted delusional self-importance. We’re all so ready to give it to him. Julian Assange simply found his niche' in information technology. He may have started out actually trying to do some good, but the power and attention has corrupted him. He's no better than a bratty, marginally talented, programmer with a God complex who writes a virus, then releases it into the internet as a news-worthy prank, or a sleazy TV reality-show producer of shows like "Cheaters" or "Paparazzi" that ruin people's lives for sensationalism, ratings, and ultimately a check from 'somebody'. He's playing "Risk". We, the people of the world, are the pieces. The instantaneous transfer of data through the uncensored internet is the medium he exploits, and our learned curiosity for any piece of the otherwise “inaccessible” is the energy to move pieces on the board. I for one will not be moved.
Yes people, this type of thing goes on, and has gone on from the time of the first dynasties and empires. It goes on now, and will continue to go on until we *a’hem* can all grow up as a people (and we know that’s not going to happen any time soon) or…we char the surface of this planet with nukes. The scary thing is; human beings only act from the better angels of our nature in the face of great loss. It seems that we have to have a big cataclysm like a disaster or a world war before people miss good and peaceful times. Any time somebody like this loser (Julian Assange) finds a way to expose and exploit our frailties or our hungry appetite for conflict, and is then allowed to sit back and watch in his own amusement as societies and establishments (of good or ill) crumble at his behest, we all become marionettes. Prosecute this idiot regardless of what he threatens to release. Put him away for life as example, run the damage control, and lock down our secrets, and get on with our lives. This should be on the level of the Rosenberg trial. The exploit is just as (if not MORE) damaging. And if we do not see this and we succumb to the hype and sensationalized fears of conspiracy and loss of hope in our own governmental and societal statutes, we may be swept by the energy and current of our own faithless fear of each other into another one of those big “conflicts” all because of a stupid prankster. Reads like a Sci Fi novel…

Wow..I find it sad that people are calling me brainwashed. Would the rest of you like to live in another country such as China or North Korea? how about Iran? how about even Europe? Umm, possibly Europe, but then I ask myself USA, and I think i'll turn right back to the USA. Yes, fight for the pressure of keeping corruption out of the government please, because that is how we are so uncorrupted compared to every other country in the world. Don't even say we compare to other governments in other countries, because places like China are so filthy, their attire is covered with dirt. Pathetic. At least I can say I'm proud to be an American citizen..and i'll continue to elect the ones of the lesser evil to stay ahead of everyone else in the world. To hear a veteran say fuck this country just makes me feel disgusted. You know how easy it is to leave America? You could easily live if you wanted to. The other commie governments want you in their country, but in America where everyone wants in to escape persecution, yeah we don't need you if you don't want to be here.

Personally I've been living life just fine. I work hard, get paid, respect my troops, and would put my life on the line to protect our country, to protect my future children. Calling me brainwashed? Sorry, world peace will never happen. don't thank your government for that, thank all the inhumane beings in the world who would love to see your whole family raped and brutally murdered, then take all your money for their own prized possession. or maybe thank the people around you who dont want to work to help their society and obtain all the same benefits as you have without even trying. So just ask yourself, you think its bad in America? go to Iran, go to China, go to Africa. Let me know what you find out when you come back. I think i'll work an 8-hour shift at my job to earn my water and food, rather than swim through an AIDS infested jungle looking for food, or drinking from an infected rabies water supply, or work in a sweatshop for 50 cents a week. selfish bastards..Blaming all your life problems on the government, when you probably don't even work, or work hard enough to earn what you want. tough luck, you work for what you earn.

Assuage has not commited Espionage in any way shape or form, get a grip this information was give to him by an AMERICAN, unsolicited, he is a JOURNALIST, freedom of the press, remember that? The files are not classed as SECRET they are marked CONFIDENTIAL, had they been marked secret they would never have been handed to him in the first place.

As usual you are giving Americans that redneck impression, and you wonder why the rest of the world does not take you, your country and certainly not your politians and credence or respect. The few Americans I have met in real life have been intelligent, god knows why we only seem to get teh blinkered fools on the internet.

Patriosm is a very good thing, standing up for ones values, way of life and the country that supports you. But covering up truth, being decietful, ignoring the blatant abuses of power because of a media fed doctarine machine is foolish. There are many things wrong in America, just as there are many things wrong here in the UK and no doubt in every other country in the world. I give a great amount of respect to the original American who gave Assuage these leaks, I respect Assuage for not bowing to corparate America and fighting for the truth to be told as he should as a journalist.

But you wishy washey, everything is fine if we don't know about it attitude is pathetic and sickening

Wikileaks stole things it never should have seen, and then released it publicly where it could hurt more lives than benefit. For this reason alone, I detest Wikileaks.
