Windows media player is not working with windows 7

Hello,
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I get this message when i try to play my music

WMP does not plays many file genres by default.. You need to install codec's for them.. You can search for codec packages on net.. The 'vista codec pack' has many codec's which enables WMP to play more number of file forms.. However, a better approach would be to install a more complete player like the VLC media player..
