Solved! Windows not loading

My old man's laptop is getting to the login screen okay, but it hangs on loading personal settings message.

It feels like the hard drive is not spinning up, and it's not an SSD, so I believe this to be the problem. But I don't have a way to test the hard drive or laptop through a HD swap. So I figure this would be the best community to ask for a second opinion. Fire away chummers.

You can download and burn knoppix 4.0 if its pre 2006 or knoppix 6.2 if its after 2006. Insert the disc and boot from it. This is a live cd it runs an os from the disc. In knoppix there is a utility that will test your hard drive.

oops. I also forgot to mention that I haven't been able to open bios. Or find myself able to get to safe mode boot options.

f10 f12 or f2 try them all independently as the laptop is starting
