Windows Phone Stuck with 4 Percent Market Share in 2012

I bought the Nokia 900 and gave W7P a serious try. The I.E. only browser is a functional joke compared to the choices available to Android. The Zune application sync method is cumbersome and I can only think its an attempt to look like iTunes. No thanks on that. One would think a Microsoft phone OS would allow a USB connection as an "external storage devices" on Windows? No separate tones for multiple email accounts? And last the camera on the Lumia 900 is junk compared to the competition.

W7P does have some decently cool features. The Live tile thing, if an app is written to take advantage of is pretty innovative. But the comparative lack of applications, limited functionality compared to ICS, and Metro's lock on everything made me very happy to return in in my 30 day window and get a SGIII. Very glad to be back with Android.

You can install Launcher 7 on to your SGIII.... and get some live-tile functionality.

How is Windows Phone 7 limited in functionality compared to ICS??? If anything its better that iOS and Android. The Office apps are phenomenal and windows phones have always gotten updates in a timely fashion. Furthermore how does metro have a lock on everything? I can unlock any live tile that I want at any time and delete any app. However I do agree that hardware and the app store is lacking on the windows phone platform.

Let me elaborate. I bought a Nokia 900 with my hard earned money. The only agenda I had was for the phone to work for me and meet my functional needs and expectations. I have been using Android now for years and also an iPhone 3G way back when.

W7P was a major dissappointment to me. It doesn't have the polish and refinement of ICS. It doesn''t have the app support. Not fart apps. Not beer pong apps. As another poster noted it's IOS and Android everywhere. I have yet to see a "For IOS, Android and W7P" logo anywhere. but I would have been happy if I had.


If you're happy with your W7P more power to you. I lost a little money and a time investment going with W7P. And anyone that doesn't see the substantial differences between it and Android is settling for less and happy to do so.

Ultimately phone value is subjective from one person to another. Read the GSIII and W7P reviews for yourself. It's undeniable that SGIII has gotten very favorable reviews from reputable sources and the sales numbers do not lie.

Most people just want something different and will figure out someway to dispute these so they feel better about their purchase. I'm just glad I got back within the 30 day window. W7P isn't bad. But there's much better,

WP7 is fantastic. The only issue I have with it is the lack of VPN functionality. I assume it's coming with WP8 though.

Other than that, I think it's great. It's very fast too

I agree with that. mobile windows 7 hardware support was/is guite low end in todays standard. So many people are waiting for mobile windows 8.
The mw7 is guite nice and sleek to use. But many users are looking more how many cores and how big resolution there is in the phone...
mw7 will live some time in single core sector, but the halo effect of mw8 will be bigger.

I think MS screwed the pooch with their WP7 "smoked your phone" marketing. I don't really see what purpose that served. I don't recall one commercial/advertisement that showcased the phone's particular capabilities and what additional functionality it offered customers. The "smoked" campaign showed people that they could see the weather of 2 locations simultaneously a split-second sooner than an android phone user. Guess what? A split-second of my time isn't worth migrating to a whole new phone in a whole new ecosystem.

They failed to showcase the ecosystem, showcase what added functionality/productivity it gave you.

WP isn't available on my provider network (yet?). I imagine given my general frustrations with app stability on android in general, I'd prefer WP (people tout them as pretty stable, apps and all).

That is a problem worldwide and is a vicious circle, all starting with apathy at the sales floor

Then as the sales figures are touted showing low market share the Devs decide to write iOS apps instead of WP apps

Then fanboys say to everyone who will listen "the App store is bigger so it must be a better phone" whilst all the time never having used a WP

I have owned a Blackberry, an iPhone, Android and now a Windows Phone and the WP is the smoothest experience of the lot, I just weep that devs are not providing more quality apps because they are chasing after the sheep market, and I am angry at the apathetic phone store sales rep that refuses to give the customer a real and genuine choice

Too true.

What's funny is that I (personally) couldn't care less how large the app market is (how many apps). I'd say that--even being generous--less than 1% of the apps written and submitted to either the Apple or Android markets are even useful. And only a fraction of that 1% are good enough to run properly more than half the time. Quality beats quantity all the time.

But I imagine I'm not a "standard" joe-schmo user. I don't really care about the next best cutesy game that Zynga is coming up with. I just want a smartphone that is stable (from what I hear, android phones on the "core" handset makers are stable--mine is not, and sadly on a small network, you have to sacrifice that, which I understand), not cumbersome to use. I can't fathom how people with iphones can actually appreciate their device. You have to go through so many menus and sub-menus just to accomplish a simple task like adjusting the screen brightness or turning on/off bluetooth. That's retarded. That's where iOS should loosen up and allow widgets if they were smart (then again, given the billions and billions they've made, it's not like it's affecting them much. Oh, and also a device that allows me to dump video and music files without restrictions on file-types, without having to go through an intermediary application. Sadly, that means putting up with a buggy android device (okay, perhaps I DO care a bit more about apps than I implied--blackberries aren't the best, but not the worst).

I was just in an at&t store, checking out the new Motorola Atrix HD... about to do my phone upgrade.

Almost all android phones are dummy models. They do have the Nokia 900 next to the other LATEST phones - SGS3 / HTC ONE X, etc... etc. I asked them about the Windows Phones... they will sell anything anyone wants.

They sold out the Lumia900 and it sold pretty well for 3 months... and yes, at $50... sales have not picked up.

Yep, hard to believe, but true - surely after playing with just one fart app for about 5 minutes it gets intensely boring and gets uninstalled. Real farts are way funnier.

I have Lumia 800 and my wife has Lumia 900. In addition we have a Samsung Galaxy Tab that runs Android, we both have stayed away from Apple. We are both very happy with our phones and think the WP7 suits phones very well. Only thing that bothers me is Zune, as for the apps, I have everything here I need(bank, messaging software, notes and papers etc)

WP7 is definitely with a shot.

Okay, checked on the iOS store... looks like 162 fart APPS... wow, apple has nothing on Android and WP7 for fart apps!

About WP7 advertising.. we've seen Nokia ads abit... but nothing that really shows how cool WP7 works... showing how the tiles work and how easy it is to find the apps.
