Windows xp help and support wont open

Hello,
upon start up my computer is asking for user name and password and i have never used a passowrd before...how can i start up

Exactly... what are you starting? Your description is very unclear what's happening.

Is that your Internet username and password?
Is the laptop trying to connect to the internet? Or are you already connected?
