Wired output to 3.5jack

Hello all

I have read a few posts on this here but none specifically address my problem albeit pretty close.
I have an old (early 90s) kenwood audio stack (model KA - 60) that I use for vinyl and old cassette tapes. In order to free up some space in the lounge I would like to loose the two big speakers attached to it and rig it up to my 5.1 sound bar that is attached to my TV via optical. The sound bar has and aux 3.5 jack input which I tested with iOS and works fine.
The issue as you have probably guessed already is that the amp in the kenwood stack only has the old wire speaker outputs. No RCA or anything else. I tried cutting the ends off an RCA to 3.5 cable and tying those to the output terminals but, knowing you are laughing now, obviously didn't work...
Is there any magical trick or sorcery I can perform to achieve this most devilish feat or am I completely asking the impossible?
It would be great to have all my home audio attached to one awesome system.

Any suggestions or mockery at my ignorance is welcomed, I would also like to know why it wont work if it won't. I am going to attempt to attach images to this post, if I don't manage to then they are available on request.

Thanks guys!!

Solution
That "Rec/Play" round five-pin DIN connector is your key to success.
Center pin is the ground. Two pins to the left is L/R for tape-in (or tape-out), same for the right pair of pins.

So, you would need first to fins out which pair of pins is your output. Switch your amp to "Tape", and then probe the pins with paper clip - you will hear "hum" when you get inputs. The other two pins are the outputs where you can connect a hacked 3.5mm headphone cable, something like this

Edit: On your "Tape" connector - isn't the left pair labeled "REC(ord)"? If so - plug your soundbar here.

Hi Alabalco

Thanks for your reply. Nope the only output is wire to speakers. I will try again to attach pics to this so you can see. What exactly do you mean "Hack it?"

Cheers,

since tomshardware does not host images you need to upload them to an image host and link them here.

http://postimg.org/ , http://tinypic.com/ http://imgur.com/ for example. normally they give you the option to copy a forum friendly link as well.

the 3.5mm input to a soundbar is not meant to receive a heavily amplified signal from say, speaker wire outputs which were hooked up to large speakers. i'd check that the 3.5mm input is still working and that you did not damage it by doing what you did first.

do everyone a favor and take a photo of the back of both items in your kenwood stack so we know what you're working with.
