I wonder is someone can help me out. I have read earlier posts on this
subject but I am still confused.

What I have...

A wireless router - I have 2 computers hard wired to it and laptop
computer with a wireless PCMIA card.

I see a lot of stuff out there for sale, such as

WAPs
Bridges
Routers that can be configure to do/be other functions.

How can I tell if one of those can be used for this. What words or
terms in the ad or in the specs that I look up will tell me whether it
will work.

Thanks in advance

Joel

Joel, You need a Bridge such as Netgear's ME-101(about $60-$70 at
Amazon) or even less on ebay (search wireless bridge).

This one works well and it doesn't make any difference what brand of
wi-fi router you have. That being said, if you use a bridge from the
same manufacturer as your router and you need support they can't get
into a finger pointing war. Just look at your manufacturer's website and
find their Bridge product.
Installation of a bridge couldn't be easier. There are no settings to
make whatsoever. Just plug the RTV into the RJ45 jack on the bridge and
power it up. If you use WEP you'll have to plug the unit into a PC
first and run the included config utility to set the WEP key.
You don't need another router or a WAP - just the Bridge. Although a
Bridge may be a little more money than a WAP or even a router, it is
specifically designed to support things like game consoles and DVR's.
While I don't need to use one myself, my friend has one and it works
flawlessly.

I'm using Netgear's ME-101 on my RTV-5040 with a Linksys Access Router. Work great.
