Hello! Recently i bought a LG tv, and yesterday i found out it doesn't have an option to plug in a jack 3.5mm. I usually connect my stereo's speakers to my tv when watching a movie, with a normal jack. The tv has an hdmi output however. If i would buy this, would it work? So i will connect the adapter in the tv, but only use the audio part of the adapter (so leaving the vga socket empty).

Like to hear your thoughts!
Thanks!
Matthijs

Unknown. TVs really don't have HDMI out, what *some* of them have is an HDMI IN with ARC (audio return), is a special HDMI port that's bi-directional (HDMI usually uni-directional), and what you hook up to it MUST also be ARC capable. I clicked your link and it doesn't mention anything ARC, so don't know. Buy from somewhere you can return.

Thanks! So we have to wait and see if the hdmi is bi-directional, and if the converter has the same option. I have ordered it (i need it anyway to connect my computer), and will you know how it worked out.

So finally i received the connector yesterday, and indeed, no sound coming from it. Is it correct that a hdmi-vga connector is different from a vga-hdmi connector? Because when i connect my computer to it, there is also no signal coming through at the tv. I thought the connector would work 2 ways?

That cable cannot work. It's for a specific application (not any kind of av gear).
If your TV has ARC (audio return channel) on one of the HDMI inputs then you need one of these
https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Extractor-Support-Converter-VHD-H2HARC/dp/B00LKF6CPG
Plug it into the HDMI input labeled ARC and turn ARC on in the TV menu.
Most TVs have an optical audio output that can be converted to analog with one of these
https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA
The TV remote won't work since these outputs because they are fixed level. You would need to control the volume on the speakers.

So this cable is only hdmi to vga, and not vga to hdmi?

Unfortunately, i don't think my tv has ARC. Can't find anything in the description, and on the tv menu there is no mention of ARC. I have this one: http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-24LH4530-P-led-tv. So without ARC there is no chance to connect any speakers am i right?
