[citation][nom]timbozero[/nom]New Xbox 360 design wishlist :-1) Improved cooling/stability/reliability2) Put the PSU circuits into the main unit and scrap the ugly 'power brick'[/citation]
power bricks are great ways to put a lot of heat away from the console.

[citation][nom]NextGenScared[/nom]Here's another factor I believe has helped with the Hugh failure rate> I've been in the alarm service business for over ten years and when I see a 360 in the majority of the homes, their either stuffed inside an entertainment center with barely enough room to cool off, setting on carpet floors covered with dust, and some homes which have those bugs in them that like warm places, where do you think they go to hide! On top of that, the stories of 360 owner's making them overheat on purpose.[/citation]

You absolutely have a point. I've seen people leave it on the carpet or on the floor in general and it gets dirty, or a buddy -his wife loaded a bunch of crap on top of the vents and he RRoD during a deathmatch. Well that's what he claims. I think I killed him so hard it broke his console lol.

day in day out, i open 360s' bypass the fans voltage to 12v, cut out the metal grill, duct tape the air conduit, add a fan tot he internal heatsink
and oh yeah resolder the gpus and, off they go
thanks microsoft for proving me with a work life =D

Yeah, I cringe anytime I see an Xbox, PS3 or even a PC on the floor. Drives me nuts and sends me into lecture mode about how terrible it is to put electronics on the floor. A lot of electronics pull in air from the bottom of the unit. If it's sitting on the floor or carpet, it's just pulling in all the dust and crud that is settled on the floor, instead of fresh air.

I'd bet half or more of the 360s that go in for repairs are just so caked with dust, you'd swear it was in a room full of smokers for months on end.

Another hint for those of you who smoke, don't smoke near your expensive electronics, unless you want to ruin their lifespan or are a clean freak and clean them all out once a week. Even then, the tar and other tobacco smoke byproducts will gum up your equipment very fast.

A slim 360 would be a master stroke for Microsoft, if they got the cooling right and no more red ring then a new look 360 would scream at people buy me I no longer break.... Microsoft really need to do this and get it right, there are still too many people scared of purchasing a 360 becuase of the failure rates of the orginal...
