Hi

Do you have any experience wit SXGA (1400x1050) screens. Are the good for
programming IDE, spreadsheets, reding pdf. etc. ? I am afraid that I will
have to keep my eyes not farther than 50 centimeters from it.

Greetings
Tomasz

I got the SXGA and wish I had gotten the XGA (1024x768), as it's
either really tiny or really fuzzy. Too bad SXGA coudn't have been
2048x1536 or even 1600x1200 so we could get an integral multiple of
nVGA for expanding the screen without getting the fuzzies. In full
rez mode it's nice for getting a lot of stuff on the screen, but my
eyes are getting a bit old for that...

This what I am afraid of. Thanks for your advice.

I am also thinking about WXGA 1280x800. Does anyone konw if it is good for
programming, surfing and etc. ?? I hope that I doesn't strain eyes too.

I would appreciate your advice
Tommy

I think the screens vary a lot between manufacturers. My Thinkpad T42
with a 15" 1400 x 1050 screen is fine. I think the smaller 14" screen
on the same model is just a bit too small for me, but some people find
it OK. 1400 x 1050 on some computers may be too fuzzy even at 15"
size.

I personally prefer wxga (widescreen xga). I have excellent close vision,
but the higher res LCDs just aggravate me lol. There have been some very
isolated incident where I would have liked to have sxga, but for the most
part, my wxga is perfect for my tastes. Obviously, this will all be a matter
of personal opinion. Go look at a few and see what you like best.

Personally I don't like WXGA. It's not much wider, and a fair bit
shorter. The bezel on the top and bottom is quite tall. Remember a
Widescreen has less surface area than a 4:3 screen with the same
diagonal measurement.

The Mac wide screens don't have the thick bezel and you can get a 17"
diagonal, but they also aren't very high resolution - 1440 x 900.

I've had no probs with 1400x1050, go have a look and decide for yourself if
you can live with it

If you work with large spreadsheets a lot, it's a really good idea to get an
SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen. You see a lot more of your spreadsheet which saves
you a lot of scrolling. 14" could be a bit small to some people (but still
perfectly legible assuming you have normal eyesight). If you are concerned
about small fonts and don't find weight to be an important factor, you may
consider 15" SXGA+.

I think you are all right. It is a matter of personal opinion. For me now is
hard to imagine working on SXGA 15''. Maybe if I go to see one in a store I
will change my mind.

Thanks for your advice
