Doesn't at&t cap data at 2G/mo now? I would think that would end the iPhone alone. How do they sell these things with all the bad press!?

Apple clearly choosed for a very appealing design rather than building a solid phone but I don't see how that can be called a design fault. Any buyer looking at an iPhone 4 in a shop has no difficulty to figure out that it is more prone to damage than a thick and ugly water and dust proof phone.
I don't think that my HTC desire would come unharmed from a fall on a concrete stairway but I wouldn't blame HTC for that. And, yes, some cases are worse than no case at all, but that's the same for many phone models. I'll stick with my silicone case around my HTC desire. Not the best look, but it absorbs the shocks way better than hard cases and will not scratch the phone (unless some sand finds his way between the case and the phone, so, clean the inside regularly !!!).

This was a pretty obvious 'flaw', the only scratch on my 3G was caused by the sliding case, thats why i went with the bumper and zaag coating for iphone4.

The flaw isn't just grit causing scratches but the back glass shattering under these small scratches over time. Since the phone hasn't been out a year that "over time" isn't a huge stretch of time either.

[citation][nom]hellwig[/nom]I thought that Gorilla Glass (TM) was supposed to be unbreakable? Weren't we hearing about how the glass-back wouldn't be a problem because of the Gorilla Glass (TM)?[/citation]

They use there own variant of "gorilla glass". So its not Gorilla glass. Unless you have sources, I could be wrong.

Here is mine, http://www.gottabemobile.com/2010/06/25/ifixit-backtracks-on-iphone-4-gorilla-glass-claim/

That is why you need the minimum of 4 sources for anything on the internet, each one with a different approach IMO.

I always hated how phone cases got grit and dust in them, no matter which one I had. Shouldn't/don't they use a thin protective coating to reduce any scratching?

Wait a sec. "the company still makes money by taking a cut from the other non-Apple cases." Doesn't that seem unusual?

Saw this on Engadget yesterday night. At one point some ~25% of respondents had reported problems.

Besides, making the back out of glass was a fundamentally stupid idea anyway.

Maybe if Jobs actually used what he sells. He seams like a guy who would throw a piece of sh!t out the window if it bugged him, so maybe he uses a Nokia, which isn't cool, but it works & keeps on working...

Once again, in the tech world, Form < Function. That`s the nicest looking malfunctioning device ever! Aesthetics are useless if it does not work.

Coming soon!
Apple designers are going to produce a range of emergency services equipment!

For the Fire Department an axe made of glass and an extiguisher made from chocolate!
For the Police, handcuffs made from cheese!!
For Paramedics, a defibrilator made from an Energizer battery and some string!!!

All lovingly crafted from most ridiculously named materials we can think of like like "liquid metal" and "gorilla glass" to hide the fact that our engineers having got a f@cking clue what they are doing, but with a big juicy Apple logo stamped on the front so you can get away with overcharging for cr@p!!!!!

Apple's plans are working; provide a shitty iPhone, and when the next one comes out, one with a billion times more quality will be released and EVEN MORE people will buy it.

man amazing new technology is great because then we can complain about it, and act like victims when something isnt perfect right guys. honestly it seems like some people here's passion for technology is based on a desire to feel superior.
