How to Conduct a Hard and Soft Reset on Roku

There are times your Roku may freeze or won’t start properly. Performing a soft reset should deal with this problem. And if you want to gift or sell your Roku, it is vital you erase all your data via a hard reset. Here is how you can perform these resets on your Roku.

Soft Reset
A soft reset is comparable to rebooting your PC. It will restart your Roku without erasing any of your data. There are three ways you can perform a soft reset.
1. Use remote keys

You can use the remote to perform a soft reset by pressing the following buttons one after the other.
  • ■Press the ‘Home key’ five times
    ■Press ‘Up’ once
    ■Press 'Rewind' two times
    ■Press 'Fast forward' two times
    This should work irrespective of which version of Roku you are using.
2. Go through the menu
You can also perform a soft reset by going through the menu. First, you press the ‘Home’ key

3. Use the Reset button
Hard reset
A hard reset will erase all your configurations and data, and your device will be as if you just purchased it. Only perform a hard reset when all the other options have failed.

2. Input the four-digit code
You will get a prompt asking you to input a four-digit code that will be displayed on-screen. Type this code and press ‘OK’. It will take about a minute, but then your Roku will be restored to factory settings.
