How to Fix a MacBook Pro That Is Not Charging

If you have already tried restarting your MacBook Pro, checking the power cable, and testing the power outlet, and the computer still doesn’t charge, there’s something else you do to fix the issue on your own before you rush to a local Apple Service Center.

MacBook Pro has a small chip called System Management Controller (SMC) integrated in it that manages all the components that require some amount of power to operate. The good news is, most of the power-related issues can be rectified easily by resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro whether it does or does not have a removable battery.

Here’s how:
Reset SMC on a MacBook Pro without Removable Battery
■Click the Apple logo, click Shut Down, and click Shut Down again to turn off your MacBook Pro. You can skip this step if your MacBook Pro is already turned off.

■Unplug your MacBook Pro from the power supply.
■Press and hold down the Control + SHIFT + Option (Alt) + Power (Eject) keys together for 10 seconds.
    ■Release the buttons together.
■Connect your MacBook Pro back to the power supply.
■Press the Power (Eject) button to turn on the computer.

■Log in and check if the issue is fixed.

Reset SMC on a MacBook Pro with Removable Battery
■Follow steps 1 and 2 explained in the previous section.
■Remove the battery from your MacBook Pro
■Press and hold down the Power button for 5 seconds.
    ■Release the Power button.
    ■Put the battery back in.
■Connect your MacBook Pro back to the power supply.
■Press the Power button to turn on your computer.
■Log in and check if the issue is resolved.
