How To Set Up 2-Factor Authentication for Evernote

More and more websites are enabling two-factor authentication to beef up their security, and Evernote has joined in. Here's how you activate the 2-factor authentication on your Evernote account.

1. First, go to the Evernote website on your computer and log in to access your account. On your home page, click the drop down menu located at the top right of the page. It is beside your account name. On the drop down menu, click "Account Settings."

2. On your Account screen, you can find the menu on the left side. Click "Security Summary." All the information regarding your security settings will appear on the screen. Enable the "Two-Step Verification."

3. A pop-up box will appear giving you information about the 2-step process. Once you click "Continue," another pop-up box will appear to verify your email. Click "Send Verification Email" and go to your email to retrieve the code for the next step. In case you cannot find the verification email in your inbox, check your spam folder.

4. Back to the "Security" screen, enter the code that was sent in your email on the space provided. Click "Continue" to proceed.

5. After that, you will have to enter your phone number. Choose the country of your residence and enter your phone number; then, click "Continue."

6. Wait for the verification code that will be sent to your phone via a text message. After receiving it, type the code on the space and click "Continue." After that, you will be asked to enter an alternate phone number. You can either add or skip this step.

7. The next window contains a set of instruction to download the Google Authenticator app to your phone.

8. Once you download it, continue with your setup process on your computer. You will be given a QR code to scan using Google Authenticator. If you cannot scan the QR code, click "Cannot Scan Code" to get another verification code.

9. On Google Authenticator in your phone, tap the menu on your handset and then "Set Up Account." Tap "Enter Provided Key" and make sure that the setting is set to "Time Based." Enter your Evernote account name or email and the verification code given on your computer.

10. A six-digit code will appear on the Google Authenticator. Enter that on your computer to complete the 2-Step Authentication on your Evernote account.
