Skype Automatically Updates Itself. The New Interface Is Annoying

When you install Skype on your computer, by default it is configured to update itself automatically. Because of this reason, every time you initialize the application, obviously with an active Internet connection, Skype automatically connects to the Skype server and looks for the latest updates that may have been released by the developers. As soon as Skype detects any new updates, it initiates the download process. After downloading the updates, Skype automatically installs them without any user intervention. Although the entire update detection and installation process remains transparent to the end-users, the application might notify the users that it requires a restart after the successful installation of the updates in order to allow the changes to take effect.

At users’ part, they can disconnect the active calls during the application restart, and can reconnect after it has been restarted successfully with the new interface and/or additional features.

Although the entire automatic update process is integrated in Skype in order to make it easier for the users to work with the application with least intervention, many times users might find it uncomfortable and annoying. The reason why they might behave so is the new interface. Sometimes the new interface of Skype might not be as user-friendly or attractive as the previous one. In such cases, if users want to revert back to the older version of Skype, they are required to uninstall the entire application and then reinstall it using the older executable file.

If you are among the ones who do not wish to modify the interface of Skype whatsoever, you can disable the automatic updates in the Skype. When the automatic updates are disabled, you no longer receive the updates without manually initializing the process.

The instructions given below will guide you through the process of disabling automatic updates in Skype:

■Log on to the computer using the administrator account.
