Best antivurs program for Windows 8.1?

I'm a walking shameless plug for Vipre Security (I've had good experiences), although Kaspersky currently has the highest safety rating of any AV on the market today. http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/security-software/331311-which-antivirus-offers-the-best-protection-av-test-reports

    Freezing no BSOD

When you ran HDTune did you use the long or short test? The short test just reads the drive's SMART data (i think), while the Long test will actually test for defects. Run the long test. If it comes up with anything then you have hard drive failure and should backup your data to prepare moving...

    Freezing no BSOD

It could be the Ram, Hard Drive or Overheating. Try to install HardwareMonitor from CPUID and keep track of the temperature. Anything over 90C is bad beans. Additionally you can look through the Windows Event Viewer to see if there is anything which occurs around the time your computer freezes...

Help me find my laptop, where is it?

The specs don't seem too demanding apart from the screen resolution. I'd say look on Ebay or Craigslist for a used Mac Pro or Alienware 18 laptop, that's your cheapest bet. Here's a good list of laptops with large screens. Although I'll say that for programming, nothing beats a dual or tri...

Expired Antivirus Protection Just as Bad as None

This is a thread for non-power users otherwise... Isn't the obvious answer just run Linux? Get a good Redhat distro with support, take a few classes in sys admin and you're good to go! Also who needs a GUI when you have tools like VI? lol...

Expired Antivirus Protection Just as Bad as None

I think he's trolling, photon... I've used Avast free and a firewall for years now without incident. I like Avast because it has the boot-time-scan which is about as good as it gets once you ARE infected. The firewall is great for PREVENTING infections, I've used PCTools FW and Komodo FW with...

Substitute a centrino duo to a core 2 duo?

It was also socket P, just to clarify. Was wrong about the FSB you need 667FSB, looks like the T5850 might be your best bet. Also you need to refurbish your heatsink/fan. A little drop of sewing machine oil on the fan bearings may be all you need, but be sure to clean up the fan and replace...

Substitute a centrino duo to a core 2 duo?

You are limited to a proc with 800MHz or less on the front side bus. The t9600 has a 1066FSB speed and will not be compatible with your system. If you find a good proc (Core 2 Duo) with <=800FSB, then it will probably work. Also you will have to manually flash the bios, and then reset it using...

Acer Beep Code - Then Boot

It's a CPU which ships out with the same model, also with a proven track record for upgrades. I'm aware of the bios conflict, however it seems to be resolved now.

Acer Beep Code - Then Boot

The Acer Support page for this particular model is: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers/3288;-;Aspire%205336 I forget which document, but while as it does not directly say you can swap out CPU's, it mentions that Acer does not whitelist CPU's on the bios, and lists SockP/800FSB as...

Acer Beep Code - Then Boot

The problem seems to have resolved itself overnight. I suspect it had something to do with the Li+ battery or the CMOS clock. Resolved.

Acer Beep Code - Then Boot

Hello! I have recently upgraded the CPU in an Acer Aspire 5336 laptop. Upon completing the upgrade, the system will post and boot after about 1-2 minutes of continuous tone with 1-second beep pulses (with no pauses in between beeps). Computer *eventually* boots into Windows, and temps are...

Since you have no need for the data on the phone, perform a factory reset. Your story sounds dubious at best, however all phones can be tracked by their original owners via the hardware ID or MAC address... Google will provide you the answers if you only search for the model number and "factory...

long beeps on startup but windows works fine after that.

That is sometimes an indication of faulty RAM. Go to Memtest.org, there you will find a way to create a bootable USB or CD to test your ram with. Run it for a few passes, or even overnight. If it finds even a single error, you should look into replacing your RAM.
