This is a pretty basic laptop. I'm really not sure what you'll need it to do, but a prebuilt computer is not really going to help you learn about computers, so i recommend you build a new desktop if you are open to that idea.

This is correct. If i were you i would go for the HP laptop for the use you described.

Laptops are not designed to be upgradeable. I highly doubt you will have any options with an HP Laptop.

And also to your insurance company if your policy covers theft. It's really not likely that if the police don't recover the laptop for you, it will ever be recovered. I really don't want to be the bearer of bad news...
