This might seem unrelated, but reseat your RAM. If the RAM is not properly seated then it won't work either. Your RAM might be broken also Then try again. Does it work? If it doesn't, then you might want to try an external monitor (which you are sure of its working). Still don't see anything...

That hard drive might be too slow for your laptop. My laptop had the same problem, installing a SSD fixes it. Be sure to buy one with a capacity of 128 GB or greater.
