As the title says, I'm in need of a gaming headset around $100 with surround sound 7.1. So far, the HyperX Cloud II has caught my attention. Is this a good headset to buy, or is there something better around this price? I will also be listening to music, and I want that to sound better than what my $30 headset does now.
Thanks!

one question first - do you have a decent sound card or a integrated one?
if the later - save your money, there won't be any difference.
if the first - hyperX is not bad, but I'd personally go with decent headphones/clip-on microphone combo :D

I use the original cloud and it really is fantastic, I would recommend it.

random stalker, I have no idea what a sound card is xD. I'm guessing I have an integrated one. And Gracodana, the original cloud has a bad mic and no surround sound (im gonna be gaming). Also, I have a z87 pro, idk how good the sound card is on it.

The mics pretty good for me for a headset, I was actually saying to get the cloud II it's just an upgrade from the original sorry if there was confusion. What mobo exactly do you have?

first things first - integrated sound cards /aka the one that is on your motherboard/ really suck. so your best option is to get a decent discrete one /which fit into the pci or pcie slots like your gpu fe - xonar dg or dgx cost about $30 and is a huge improvement, sound blaster z or titanium hd cost way more but are currently the best for games/.

second - 5.1 or 7.1 doesn't matter much if you haven't got enough channels /aka small speakers in each cup/. and considering your budget there is no way your headphones will have more than 1 per ear.
so, the only way to get surround sound is to cheat a bit /see the barber shop https://youtu.be/IUDTlvagjJA and it's use of virtual surround/. that is what any decent sound card can do and that is what lots of usb headphones use /and have an integrated chip for that, what is the reason they are mostly utter overpriced pieces of garbage/ :D

btw.. I have got hyperx for my mother and she doesn't nag, so I guess it is comfortable enough and the sound is clear enough /at least for skype, etc.../

I wouldn't have thought so but I don't use a sound card so i'm not an expert I didn't realise that they made a big difference which they aparantly do, I thought they were just for studio quality and music creation. If sound is really important to you it seems a good idea to get it but I think that you would be fine with just the headset.
