17-55 2.8 or 35mm 1.8?

Hi,

I own myself a Nikon 17-55 2.8.
When i use this its really heavy. Useually i use it for private like taking pictures of familiy or when i have a party somewhere.
I also own myself a flash a SB600.

As i can read from different reviews of the 35mm 1.8, its a really good quality lens and i like the part its not heavy.

The 17-55 is too heavy its hurts my neck.

I want to sell my 17-55 but shall i keep my flash ?
Do i need the flash for 35mm or is it ok to use the internal flash in the camera body?
I own a nikon d5100.

Can someone tell me also if its enough to take good pictures and videos with 35mm 1.8?

A fixed focus lens will outperform a zoom lens of the same make. Both lenses (the one you have and the one you are considering) do need the use of the SB600; especially for pictures at parties. The 17 mm setting will give you a great angle of view for parties.

The 35 mm lens will be OK for general use, but not very useful for indoor use, and not suitable for groups, because of the view.
