2-3 inch wide vertical line on right side of laptop screen with skinny blue line

I have an HP Notebook G71-340US with a 2-3 inch wide black vertical line on the right side of the screen from top to bottom, it also has a thin white vertical line along the outside edge of the black line and a little bit in, a thin blue vertical line. The computer works fine, except for this black line that covers that area of the screen. I have to minimize anything I want to look at, yo be able to see it. A couple days ago this happened for no apparent reason. i used my computer that mourning, it was fine. I left the house for a while and when I returned, I went to use my laptop, and there was this big black bar looking line on it! I tried turning it off then on again. still there! I tried restoring it, still there My cursor goes behind it and I can even work a few things if I try hard enough. I've moved my toolbar ro the left side, to be able to use things that were hidden by this black line. But it is very irritating! I'm posting a couple pic's with this......PLEASE HELP!

I looked for a tab on this page to upload pic's, but can't find one. I'm not in anyway a computer wiz, but is there any way to troubleshoot this problem or something I can maybe be able to do to fix it? If not, can I change the screen size to where I can see without minimizing? I tried to change the resolution, and I think I did it wrong cause it looked like it was still there.

Looks like your graphics died, could be the monitor cable or monitor itself.

How Do I check these things? I'm not computer smart, lol, but I am smart enough to follow directions Thank u for replying to my post, I appreciate it so much!

If it is the cable which is really the only one that is the easy fix, partially close and open the monitor if it changes the cable is damaged where it goes through the hinge. Other problem would be a service fix or replacement.

Well I noticed this mourning it had more lines and when I did what u told me to do, the lines went away But the big black line and the blue line are still there

Is there any way to change the screen size to fit this weird new screen, lol, till I can get it fixed? I had to move my toolbar and I have to minimize to use internet and stuff, lol, Oh........is it gonna get bigger?!?!? I sure hope not!

I have a dell desktop, will that work? This is an hp but that shouldn't matter right? If so, what do I do.......

See if you can plug the monitor cable from you monitor to the laptop.
