Hello,
A few years ago I bought a hard drive 2.5" to 3.5" convertor to
connect my laptop HD to a desktop PC to copy my old laptop disk to a
new one.
Today I tried to do the same, but to my surprize I found the convertor
does not fit IDE cables from my PC. The IDE cable on my PC that
connect HD have one middle hole covered, why my old convertor have 40
pins sticking out.
Something changed recently with IDE cables?

Thanks,

Zalek

This change is just to insure the cable is inserted in the correct
orientation. 3 options; find an old ide cable with no blocked hole, drill
out the plug or break off the pin.

The cable is "keyed". This is an optional thing that a mfgr. can do to
keep the cable from being put on backwards. A few mfgrs. of cables do
it, most don't. Either use a different cable, or remove the
corresponding pin from your adapter. Electrically, the pin in question
is not required and won't matter either way.

There is always the time-honoured solution of pushing really, really
hard.
(cut off the pin)
