When running a backup of the Pocket PC, it shows the file for Voice
Recorder to be 2669.08 kilobytes. Immediately after a hard reset, that
number is much lower, like under a 100 kilobytes. Seeing how I am quite
lazy, I'm restoring the backup rather than installing every application
from scratch. Dang, there's those 2.6 megs again, and I have no idea where
it came from. Now I am pretty sure that I never even used the voice
recorder, and even looked for recordings, both with PPC file explorer and
WinXP explorer.
Yeah, the obvious solution would be a hard reset, and installing
everything from scratch. What's the other option?

Hi,
Check in the files you sync from the PC. Maybe it's there and it's being put
back each time you sync.

Check to see if one of the ppc's buttons is assigned as a quick launch-
you may be activating it without knowing.

Well, the record button is, but I have it de-activated and I still can't
find any actual recordings.

Can;t you grab a file explorer that will let you search the device for files
that are x size? For example, Total Commander, a quality piece of free
software. It might prove enlightening...

Good luck

they may be hidden files in which case you wont see them in pocket
explorer. Try a different file explorer, but I don't know of any free
ones- I use Resco which costs, but is good.
You could try viewing the files from your PC when connected by
Activesync, I think that can be set to show hidden files, and sort by
file sizes too. The ppc should also show up as a virtual drive in your
normal file explorer- it's worth a try.

Mystery solved! 2.6 Megs is the size of the voices and sounds (.wav files)
from Pocketmap Navigator. The backup utility on my Toshiba e335 thinks
those are voice recordings and thus lists them under Voice Recorder.
