Still don't see the point of this when you can add your own bigger HDD for so much cheaper.

For the people who don't know how to change hard drives.

uber noobs

this is still an amazing deal, but why aren't they undercutting microsoft.... a $10 price drop for the $300 model will make all the difference, this makes me think they have a deal under the table

USD$50 is really high for 60 GB more space. Is it possible to just add a hard drive of your choice without paying the high premium through Sony?

Ive had a 500gb HD in my 1st gen ps3 with all the ports and backwards compatability for a long time. took 5 mins to install

So, it's still not backwards compatible with PS2 games? Darn.

My Xbox 360 still cant play my original Xbox games, stop QQing.

Also changing a HDD in PS3 is 10 to 100x easier than a PC.

uh....its actually about the same...
1. open case
2. screw in hdd
3. plug in sata power and data cables
4. PROFITS

Sony should really enable complete game install on the PS3 HDD. This way more space will be much useful.

is there a capacity limit the PS3 can use for HDDs? 2TB drive would be so nice...

planning on getting a ps3, but waiting for boxing day, i want the crappy game that they will throw in, yes, that makes all the difference.lol

They can't really do that cuz they have a 20GB vs the 250GB model. While the blueray game discs hold more than 20 GB I think, don't quote me on that, but it sounds right to me. It would speed up load times for games, but they use 5400RPMs than the 7200RPMs HDD which wouldn't be much performance difference.

[citation][nom]MiamiU[/nom]is there a capacity limit the PS3 can use for HDDs? 2TB drive would be so nice...[/citation]Unfortunately all versions of the PS3 use laptop (2.5") hard drives and have only 1 connection. I'm unaware of a 1T laptop hard drive.

My friend upgraded his to a larger size and 7200rpm. He says the performance boost for loading is very noticeable and would be my main excuse for upgrading.

1TB (and 750GB) laptop hard drives from WD have been available for almost 2 months.

I could not agree more. the gave us the on/off button via the controler (thankyou) - not if they'd just let us sit there.
Getting off the sofa after a few beers and searching down the dvd case is just too much effort.

SDD drivers will be the way to go when they come down in price a bit more. The only tests I've seen are from a while ago so the speed up wasn't that great; but by the time they hit sensible price level, they’ll be fast.
