I've seen many people post questions about viewing security DVR files, but my question is about converting many files for dvd authoring.

I would love to find a way to batch process and convert these files. It would save me hours of manual conversion -- one at a time!

Any thoughts?

I'm fairly sure you can drop hundreds of files at a time into HandBrake, then convert them all to predefined settings.

You could also call it from the command line.

Thank you for your quick response. I've just downloaded Handbrake for Windows, and gave it a quick test. Looking at the log files, Handbrake doesn't seem to like the .264 file.

[20:18:06] dvd: not a dvd - trying as a stream/file instead
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] pps_id out of range
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] slice type too large (0) at 0 0
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] decode_slice_header error
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] slice type too large (0) at 0 0
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] decode_slice_header error
[h264 @ 01D0B9C0] no frame!

There are more lines indicating failure.

Bummer. 🙁

Hmm. Looks like your security cameras aren't sticking to the standards, or something.

Can you set them to record to a different format?

VidCoder is a different front-end on Handbrake; it might or might not fix it.

I could only wish for a different format. I can easily open the files with VLC using the demux h264 switch, and the AVIGenerator converts them without a problem.

The only thing I haven't tried, was to pull the drive out of the DVR and seeing if could mount the drive on my linux box -- Just to see if the raw files were in a different format. Somehow, I think this would be close to a waste of time.

Initially I was hoping to find command line arguments for AVIGenerator, but the '/?' did nothing.

Needing to convert 10 to 15 hours of daily capture is very time consuming.

The application is to use the Swann system as a cheap time lapse camera/recorder. I should probably look for a hardware solution for my cams, and use a different method for capturing.
