3.5mm 3-Pole Male to 4-Pole Female?

Hi. I was hoping that someone with experience regarding this issue could offer some insight. I am just wondering whether or not connecting a male 3.5mm 3-pole into a female 3.5mm 4-pole will cause any issues.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

The mic won't work and depending on how the 4 pole was wired (Apple is different) then you won't get both channels with the plug fully inserted.
